My puppy ate toy stuffing. Should I be concerned about obstruction?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 months and 2 days old | 10.6 lbs

My puppy ate a little stuffing from her toy last night, but she's been acting normal eating fine and going no. 2 fine no sign of the stuffing coming out yet so is it a cause for concern?

Hi there. It could be a little too early for Snowball to pass the stuffing. We always worry any time a puppy ingests anything it shouldn't. Please watch her stools to see if anything is passing or if you note any blood in her feces, etc. If she shows any signs of vomiting or diarrhea, please take her in. Depending on the amount of stuffing she took in-she could potentially become obstructed which could make her very sick. It sounds like you're watching her very closely, good for you! It really depends on how much was eaten. A small amount may be able to pass through. Signs to watch out for that it isn't passing include diarrhea, straining to go potty without success, vomiting, tender abdomen, bloating of the abdomen, loss of appetite, lethargy. If you see any signs of illness, don't think it will pass, or suspect the stuffing may be toxic for ingestion, seeking veterinary care ASAP is best.

Stuffing like this is usually just cotton, and should not be toxic to your dog. The thing that would worry me would be if she ate a large amount and that large amount got stuck in her stomach or intestines. You would know this because she would stop wanting to eat, start vomiting, and have diarrhea. If it was just a small amount she ate she will probably be fine. As long as she's acting normal I wouldn't worry.

It could take one to a few days for any signs of toxicity to develop. I recommend continuing to monitor snowball for any signs of vomiting, difficulty going to the bathroom, decreased appetite, pain and or change in energy level. If you notice any of those changes Snowball should be evaluated by a veterinarian. If after a few days she seems normal or is he the stuffing pass-through in her poop everything should be fine.

A small piece of stuffing should be able to pass through Bella. If she is having difficulty passing it you will notice that she will stop eating and start vomiting and having diarrhea. If you notice any of these symptoms I would recommend taking Bella in to the vet. She may need X-rays to check for a blockage. If Bella is doing well then I would not worry.

If he continues to eat stuffing and string from toys, these can lead to an intestinal foreign body obstruction and cause some very serious complications. I would switch from these types of toys to other toys that are more difficult to destroy such as the kong toys. There are many different kong toys you can find at the pet store. I hope this helps! Puppy swallowed toy fabric. Did it pass if she's acting normal?

What a cute name snowball! Yes, it is possible that the arm has passed through the stool and you just missed it. I would not be concerned as long as snowball is eating, drinking and defecating normal. If at anytime snowball is acting ill, vomiting or not eating I would recommend taking snowball to the vet for an x-ray of her abdomen. I hope that helps

Hello. The first thing you need to do is recover or throw this bed away. Much depends on how much Snowind may have ingested, but most times only a small piece is ingested. Most pets are just interested in a taste & rarely eat enough to cause a problem. You should just keep an eye on him for any abnormal gastrointestinal signs such as loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea over the next several days. Monitor her for any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. She will likely pass small bits if elastic or stuffing over the next few days if she ate any. See your veterinarian if she develops any of the above symptoms.

If it was just a very small amount, he will likely be OK. The biggest concern when a dog eats something he shouldn't is a foreign body obstruction, meaning the item causes a blockage of his intestines. This would be a surgical emergency. If Rocky continues to act normally - normal attitude, normal eating/drinking/urinating/defecating, and is not vomiting, he will likely be OK. It can take up to 72 hours for the stuffing to pass, so I wouldn't be worried just yet. There are a couple of possibilities if you don't see any stuffing in Ella's feces: One, she didn't actually eat any. Two, it's moving very slowly through her GI tract. Three, it is stuck in her system. Keep monitoring her and her feces through the end of the week and she's acting normal, then I would suspect she didn't actually eat any of the stuffing. I would only be concerned if Ella stopped eating, become lethargic, and developed other symptoms such as diarrhea or constipation.
