My puppy ate senior dog food. Will a few kibbles make him sick?

Trusty is a very cute puppy! The main concern when a dog is fed a diet they are not used to is that it can cause G.I. upset. This can range from mild to severe. In general it is not a good idea to give dogs large quantities of foods or treats that they are not used to. Monitor your puppy closely over the next 24 hours for any signs of vomiting, diarrhea, not eating well or lethargy. If these are seen, call your veterinarian. Yes, puppy food is a "hotter" diet higher in protein and carbs. It is formulated for a growing puppy that needs the extra nutrition. An adult dog may gain excessive weight if fed a puppy formula regularly. The higher protein content may also put undue stress on the older dog's kidneys. Puppy food certainly won't hurt Iggy if he only eats it for a week. The differences between puppy food and adult food are mainly in the calcium/phosphorus balance to help promote proper bone growth, as well as being a bit more calorically dense. As Jessica explained so well, it's important to mix the old and new foods together for about a week whenever possible to minimize the chance of developing stomach upset. I would also look at the caloric density (kcal per can) listed to see if you need to adjust the amount of canned puppy food that he's getting relative to the number of calories he was getting from adult food. He is probably going to be alright. In rare cases he may get a bit of diarrhea or vomit. Make sure there is no more of that moldy dog food around as it can cause a tummy upset. Just observe Zeus and should he get diarrhea more than once or vomit more than once, take him to a veterinarian for an exam.

I assume you mean that he ate adult dog food. That is perfectly fine, he may have some gastrointestinal signs like vomiting or having diarrhoea but otherwise he should not have any other side effect. I would recommend to feed him with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
