Puppy ate pepper sauce and is foaming. What risks should I watch for?

He might get an upset stomach from eating the hot sauce. You will need to monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, and/or lethargy. If you notice anything abnormal then he will need to be examined by your vet for treatment.

Oh dear! Puppies often chew things they shouldn't, unfortunately. If Ruben did swallow some of the foam, the biggest risk is that it could get stuck in his stomach or intestines and cause a blockage. Or, it may pass through his system with no problems at all. I would keep a close eye on him for the next 2-3 days. As long as he's eating and drinking, acting normal, and having regular bowel movements, you shouldn't need to worry. If he stops eating, has any vomiting, or does not have a bowel movement for more than 24 hours, then I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and x-rays since these can be signs of a blockage.

Since he is 30 pound, he will likely be fine but you have two options. You can either take him in now and see if they can make him throw it up. The other options is to start feeding him some high fiber canned food to help him pass it. Your vet may be able to provide you with some if they sell it. If you don't take him in now to get him to throw it up, I would watch him closely for vomiting and not eating. Also, make sure he is having regular bowel movements. There is little to worry about with him eating a whole hot dog. The most that could happen is he ends-up with an upset stomach and has a temporary bout of vomiting and/or diarrhea. An upset stomach can lead to diarrhea and vomiting which are usually self-limiting (meaning they will resolve on their own within 12-36 hours). If she begins showing any signs of an upset stomach that don't resolve in that time period then you should take her to your vet for treatment. Capsicum (cayenne) is not toxic to dogs. A small amount of ketchup shouldn't harm her at all :) If she consumed the entire packet, including the packaging, there is a small chance that this could cause an intestinal obstruction but usually things like this pass through with no problems. As long as she is eating and drinking, acting normal, and not vomiting, I wouldn't worry. The packet will probably pass through her system and be passed in her stool within the next 2-3 days.
