My 8-week-old puppy has hiccups and ate a dryer sheet. Is she okay?

The dryer sheet doesn't have any toxins that could hurt your dog and if only a small piece is missing, this should pass through his intestinal tract without trouble. Keep an eye out for drooling, vomiting, loss of appetite, or general lethargy. If anything like this happens, get him in to see your vet right away.

Hi, I think the amount ingested is very small and it should therefore not be dangerous for Murph and hopefully pass through. I would keep and eye on Murph feaces and make sure he is comfortable, eating and not vomiting. If worried, have him checked over but hopefully it will pass through over the next 24 -48 hours.

Puppy hiccups are quite common and typically become less frequent with age. Often this is due to gulping air with excitement or eating/drinking to fast. If the latter is the case you can try feeding on a plate with a cup or rock in the middle to make her eat around it thus slowing her down. If he is acting sick, then do not feed him, supply water only if he does not vomit & get him to the vet as soon as you can. But if he seems fine, he will most likely be OK. Hiccups are normal in puppies, and they can have them on and off throughout the day. Typically, they occur after a meal, but they can occur at any time. Eventually, Bolt will grow out of them, so it's not something to worry about :-)

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Aside from some froathing/foaming from irritation from the mouth she should be fine. If she seems like she is irritated in the mouth you can rinse it with water (turn her head sideways and stream water through sideways, so that you are not pouring water into her mouth that she could get into her airway). Otherwise just provide lots of fresh water for her to drink. Best of luck with Bella!

I am sorry that Daxon is having hiccups, but rest assured they are very normal for puppies. Their gastrointestinal tracts are immature and still developing. Hiccups are sudden, involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle. As the muscle contracts repeatedly, the opening between the vocal cords snaps shut to check the inflow of air and makes the hiccup sound. Because these areas are still developing in puppies, they are prone to more frequent hiccups then older dogs. My philosophy is often that less is more. Meaning that, the hiccups are natural, and therefore we shouldn't interfere with unnecessary medications. If the hiccups are slightly frustrating for you to hear, perhaps you could try distracting or redirecting Daxon when they occur. This might "trick his system" into halting the hiccups.
