My puppy ate a dead mouse. What should I do if the vet is closed?

Make sure the ingested animal did not die from rodenticide. If so, it is possible your puppy will suffer secondary exposure and may require veterinary attention. If not, monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or lethargy. See your vet if you notice any of these signs.

Mice and other rodents can transmit disease and parasites. It is best to make sure Ember is up to date on all vaccinations and deworming, and to watch out for any signs of illness that could indicate a problem such as vomiting, diarrhea, etc. If you notice these symptoms or she isn't up to date, seeking care from your vet is best.

You'll want to be sure to keep an eye on Dude. If the vomiting is persistent or you notice and diarrhea or change in behavior, you'll want to visit your local Veterinarian as soon as possible. You can offer him a bland diet of chicken and rice to let the stomach heal in the mean time. Don't forget to call the exterminator! Please keep us in the loop.

There are some diseases that can be transmitted from a mouse to a dog, but it's not that common. Dogs eat rodents and birds all the time and rarely have any problems. I would just make sure that she received a leptospirosis vaccine and that she gets a dewormed in the next month or two. Otherwise, she should be fine. If she shows any signs of illness, then it would be worth a visit to the vet, but it's not necessary to rush to the vet anytime soon. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.

That's good that you got the mouse out of her mouth so quickly. Mice typically transmit worms, fleas/ticks and they can transmit leptospirosis and other bacteria depending on the local prevalence. I recommend to make sure Callie is up to date on her flea, heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention. Then call your veterinarian and tell them what happened. They will know if there are any bacterial infections in your region of concern and will recommend preventive treatment if needed. With a dog Ace's size, the mouse likely will not cause any problems such as an intestinal obstruction. It may cause vomiting / diarrhea, but he will likely be fine as the bones will dissolve in the stomach. I would monitor for vomiting, lethargy, inappetance, etc. and have a veterinarian examine him should any of these symptoms arise. I hope this helps! Certainly the mouse could have caused an upset stomach; however there are some other causes of vomiting and diarrhea. Some potential causes are intestinal parasites, Parvovirus, toxicity or even a foreign body. Since Josie is vomiting, lethargic and is very young I would recommend being evaluated by a local vet for a physical exam where they may recommend x-rays, fecal exam and/or Parvovirus test.
