My puppy ate corned beef and is weak and vomiting. What to do?

He could be suffering from pancreatitis which is a serious medical problem. It is common in small dogs after eating a meal high in fat. I recommend a veterinary exam and treatment with fluids, and medication to control the diarrhea and nausea. If left untreated this can become life threatening and can damage the pancreas which increases the incidence of diabetes in the future. Poor Luna! She may benefit from intravenous fluids. Have you veterinarian check some bloodwork to see if her liver or kidneys were affected. You may also ask your veterinarian if pain medication would be beneficial. Without being able to examine Luna myself, it's difficult to know how best to advise you. If she ingested a cob, she should be seen by your vet as the cob may cause a GI obstruction. Moldy corn poses risk of aflatoxin toxicity and requires veterinary attention. If was regular, fresh corn off the cob then large quantities can cause GI upset such as vomiting and diarrhea. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not, see your veterinarian.

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. I would recommend you take her in. She may have some pancreatitis from the fat. (Her pancreas may have become inflamed trying to secrete enough enzymes to help digest the fat). Or it could be coincidental and she also ate part of a toy or something and has an intestinal obstruction, or maybe she has Parvovirus. A lethargic puppy is always a worry. Since she’s not wanting to play, I’d take her in. Good luck with her! I hope she feels better soon.

It sounds as Luna is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet urgently, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

As these episodes are very commonly related to dietary indiscretion, I would recommend to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, more severe lethargy or inappetence.
