My dog ate corned beef, now vomiting and has bloody diarrhea. Help!

The problem is that even a small piece of sausage can cause a dog problems because of the fat content. You are seeing that with the vomiting and diarrhea, and now bloody diarrhea. Because her symptoms have progressed to blood in her poop, it's time to see a vet. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Sorry we weren't able to get to your question sooner. If Princess is still not feeling well, that is concerning. My biggest worry would be the possibility of an intestinal obstruction if there was a piece of the bag in there that did not pass through. If thats the case, you're going to have to see a vet--can't fix that at home. It is possible, though, that the bag just caused a pretty significant gastroenteritis (inflammation of the GI tract). Call your vet and ask about giving famotidine. This is an acid reducer that may help if she's still vomiting. Luna needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. It sounds like she is not doing well and it's possible she is getting dehydrated. Additionally, if the meat was seasoned with onions or garlic, this could be toxic. At this point, there's likely nothing you can do at home. Luna needs supportive care which may include medications and fluids. It's also possible her illness is not related to the meal (ie something like a viral infection) and it's only coincidental. I would have phivo evaluated by a veterinarian. Vomiting and diarrhea with blood can be caused by viruses such as parvovirus (if he isn't vaccinated fully) or can be caused by irritation in the stomach and bowel from eating things he shouldn't or by certain foods that don't agree with him. A veterinarian will be able to make sure phivo is hydrated, give him medication for vomiting and diarrhea, and do tests such as fecal exam or x-rays to sort out what is going on. If you absolutely cannot get him in right away, I would fast him for 12 hours then feed a bland diet exclusively (boiled skinless chicken breast and white rice). Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor guy! Pancreatitis can cause vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia and belly pain. It is a cause of vomiting and diarrhea but it isn't the only cause. Other causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, IBD, food allergy/intolerance or reaction to eating something outside or a new treat/food/people food. Since he has been low grade vomiting now for 2 days it is best to have him seen soon if it continues. It is encouraging that he is eating. I would be sure you fasted him for 12-24 hours then resume feeding with a very bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Make the meals very small. Only offer small amounts of water. If he is lethargic, won't eat and the vomiting continues even on a low grade scale he should be seen before the weekend. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

Vomiting and bloody stools can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. If he is having seizures that make this very serious as this is possibly unrelated and could be seen with conditions such as low blood sugar from vomiting, brain inflammation, epilepsy, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Bruno evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics and possibly an MRI. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Hi there and thanks for posting! Blood in the stool and vomiting can have a variety of causes such as parasites, viral, or bacterial infections. Anal gland infections or cancer near the colon or of the large intestines can also cause blood in the stool. Gastrointestinal obstructions can also cause loose stool and vomiting. My best advice is to withhold food from Fandanggo until tomorrow morning (he can have water, however). Tomorrow morning, feed him small amounts of boiled chicken, rice, and plain canned pumpkin ( not he pie filling). If he is still vomiting and having diarrhea today or tomorrow, he really should see a veterinarian as soon as possible. As mentioned above, there can be many causes for Fandanggo's symptoms, so it is best if not too much time goes by without seeing a veterinarian.
