Puppy ate colored pencil, now has a cough. When to see a vet?

That was naughty of Obi to eat those pencils! It's good that they are non-toxic, but you are correct they could do some damage to his GI tract. It may be he threw up all the pencils he ate, so I would watch him for now. If he keeps vomiting, stops eating, you see blood in his vomit, stops drinking, he becomes very lethargic, or you notice blood in his feces, then yes I would take him into the vet. I would give him half a slice of whole wheat bread now and one with every meal for the next couple of days. This will form a ball of ingesta around the pencils and hopefully cushion them as they pass through the intestinal tract. I hope this helps!

Hello. If your puppy's symptoms seem pretty stable, & she continues to eat & drink normally, then it will be OK to wait a couple of days to have her seen. But if things worsen, especially if she stops eating or develops any diarrhea, then see if you can have her seen tomorrow. I wouldn't worry if it was just one-time, however I would monitor the puppies for any additional coughs or signs of respiratory issues (heavy breathing, vomiting, not wanting to eat or drink, turning pale/blue, etc) If the coughing happens again, or you are seeing other signs of illness, a vet visit right away is best.

Hello. I would take this as a day by day. Pixie may have a little cold, but if she is acting & eating well, it may just need to run its course. I would definitely keep your appointment on Friday, but if she does still have a cold, your vet may put off any vaccinations for a few days longer. I would seek veterinary care ASAP, especially since she is showing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea with blood in it. Broken pencil pieces can easily cut up insides and the pencil lead itself can be toxic if ingested.

Crayons are non-toxic, but the issue is that they could cause an obstruction. Do NOT induce vomiting at home. I would take Sage into a vet immediately. They can safely induce vomiting to get the crayons out of her stomach. Best of luck.

The most likely causes are an infection or allergies. An object stuck in the nose is possible but typically tends to be one sided and will start to have greenish discharge.
