My puppy ate castor oil. He has diarrhea but seems fine. What to do?

That is a small amount of oil, and while Percy should be ok, I would keep an eye on him to be safe. Oil is a fat, and too much fat can cause pancreatitis in dogs. Symptoms of pancreatitis include abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, and anorexia. If you see any of those signs, rush him into a vet immediately because pancreatitis is very serious. Best of luck.

Hello, you do not need to apply any castor oil on your puppy. You could wipe his rear with a damp cloth and allow him to walk around more to stimulate him to go on his own. Feed hime wet food over dry food or offer him more water. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Milo is ridiculously cute!! My main concern is that he start drinking. You can offer water with a little chicken broth in it. (But always make sure there is fresh water too.) Start a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora. Try a bland diet (half plain boiled/canned chicken half plain cooked white rice) for a few days and I expect the diarrhea to improve after 1-3 days. (Then transition back to her regular diet slowly over 3-5 days.) If at ANY time he is lethargic, vomiting, not wanting to eat, or you have other concerns, you need to go to the vet clinic right away to make sure it’s nothing more serious. If his diarrhea is not improving, or if he develops blood in his diarrhea then he should be seen by a veterinarian as anti-diarrhea medications may be recommended. Common causes of this is often some form of dietary indiscretion but other causes may include a parasitic infection or inflammation of his GI tract. At the least he will likely have sift poo for a day or 2 as oil acts like a laxative. However the fat in the oil may cause him to develop pancreatitis which isn't a very nice condition. If he is vomiting or dull I would seek a vet immediately.

Three days of diarrhea is typically when I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. You could try a bland diet like 25% plain, boiled chicken breast and 75% plain white rice for a day to see if the diarrhea resolves, but if it continues, if you see any blood, or if Rust has been vomiting or has a decreased appetite you should see a vet.
