My small puppy ate beef jerky with garlic and onion. What should I do?

This may result though in gastrointestinal upset. Watch your pup for symptoms consistent with gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, inappetence and/or diarrhea. If she just got into the trash within the past two hours, you can take her into a vet immediately to have vomiting induced to get the onions out of her system to prevent any toxicity from occurring. Otherwise, you can monitor her for now. There likely isn't enough onion in these rings to cause toxic symptoms, but to be safe if you see any lethargy, weakness, ataxia, pale gums, hyper salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, or bloody urine, I would have Piper seen by a vet immediately.

Onion toxicosis is consistently noted in animals that ingest more than 0.5% of their body weight in onions at one time. Garlic is 5 times more powerful than the onion. Considering the fact that the quantity is unknown I think the best course of action would be to take Taquito to your veterinarian to make him sick and give medication to reduce absorption of the toxics. A few pieces of onion ingested by a dog of Mochi's size will likely cause nothing worse than some minor stomach upset, if anything at all. She would need to eat 2 or 3 med/large onions in order to be at risk of serious toxicity. If she develops vomiting or diarrhea but continues to behave normally, you can fast her for 24 hours then feed a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve.
