Is my 6-month-old puppy's 17-inch height normal for his age?

Hello. Maria looks adorable. Even within a breed, there can be a wide variety of sizes & shapes. As long as she appears to be eating well, is active & has normal eliminations, she is probably fine. For Maria to reach her full potential, make sure you are feeding her the best quality food you can afford, make sure all of her vaccinations are current & administered at the right times, & that she has excellent parasite protection including checks for intestinal worms, fleas, ticks & heartworms ( if appropriate to your area ). He still has plenty of time to grow. He may not be fully grown until after 12 months of age. There is some thought that early neutering can decrease total growth potential. If you are concerned that he is not growing appropriately, I would recommend that you have Bran examined by his veterinarian. The vet will evaluate his diet and do an exam to see if there is something we can change to help him meet his full growth potential. But, just like in humans, there is no magic treatment to make them taller!

I am wondering if she could be a different breed then you were told if you feel she is so small. As long as she isn't sick then it is just her and she may not get so big. Hi there. I'm afraid it's not possible to tell what breed a puppy is just by looking at a photo, as coat color and length, general body shape, etc. often change a great deal as puppies grow. From what I can see, he looks like a medium-to-large breed of some sort. Possibly some kind of retriever mix, but that's just a guess. If you don't have any information about his parents, your best bet would be to have a DNA test such as a Wisdom panel done. This would give you more information about what breed (or mix of breeds) he is, which would allow you to make a more educated guess about his adult size and weight.

At 4 months and weighing only 6 lbs, I would guess (without seeing a picture of your dog0 that he won't be over 15 pounds. I wish you the best!

This is a common question we get from people who want their dog to be very big. The answer is that you should not be trying to make her grow too much too fast. Labradors vary in size depending on their genetics, so I can't give you an exact height that she should be, but she appears at a normal height for five months old. I know that my answer is very different than what you are expecting and it requires some further explanation.
