My 4-month-old puppy is 6 lbs. How big will he get as an adult?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 4 months and 16 days old | 7.8 lbs

At what point does your puppy’s weight peak? I heard at about 6 months their weight tapers off ... then they reach adult weight at 1 year. If this is true approximately how big will my puppy get if he is 6lb at 4 months old (given the fact we do not know the weight of his parents)??

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

The final weight of a dog depends on breed. Large breed and giant breed dogs can grow until 2 years of age. At 4 months and weighing only 6 lbs, I would guess (without seeing a picture of your dog0 that he won't be over 15 pounds.

I wish you the best!
