How to ensure my Labrador puppy reaches its maximum healthy height?

Puppies grow at different rates and even though the parents are large and stocky not every pup may get their build. Make sure you are giving Max a good quality food and that you are feeding enough at each meal. If he's very hungry and eats all the food quickly then you're probably not feeding enough at each meal. I feed twice a day and give a biscuit or two for treats. Controlled exercise daily will build muscle and swimming is a great exercise also. Max will reach his full size by the time he is two years old, perhaps slower than the others. He's a handsome boy and is just at an awkward stage right now. In addition please have a stool sample checked by your veterinarian to be sure there are no parasites effecting his growth. She looks cute and healthy. She also looks to be more of a field type lab which can be smaller than the more English show type labs. I expect her to mature around 50 lbs. or a little larger. Some dogs grow more slowly but will still reach their full normal mature weight, just later than other dogs. Hello. Maria looks adorable. Even within a breed, there can be a wide variety of sizes & shapes. As long as she appears to be eating well, is active & has normal eliminations, she is probably fine. For Maria to reach her full potential, make sure you are feeding her the best quality food you can afford, make sure all of her vaccinations are current & administered at the right times, & that she has excellent parasite protection including checks for intestinal worms, fleas, ticks & heartworms ( if appropriate to your area ). Noir Is at the age where the growth spurt should begin. As long as her body condition score is good, and she is eating a high-quality large breed dog food, everything should be fine. Also keep in mind that just because her parents are big, does not mean she will be big. Sometimes the runts can be as much as 50% smaller than their littermates. Make sure she is regularly dewormed. Mixed bred dogs can exhibit any range of behaviors or traits because they are inheriting these from the purebred parents. That is why you are finding so much variation. Likely this puppy will be at least 50lbs. You will want to feed her a large breed puppy food. She will likely be athletic and active. It's impossible to know her temperament however because huskies and labs tend to be very different. She will likely be somewhere in the middle. Reading about both breeds will better prepare you for owning a mix of the two. While mixed breed dogs tend to avoid the inherited health risks of purebred dogs, they can still have them. She may be prone to the same orthopedic issues that all large breed dogs are susceptible to. Lastly, beware of back yard breeders who are purposefully breeding mixed bred puppies. The USA has a significant problem with pet over population and thousands of healthy mixed breed dogs are euthanized every year in shelters because there are not enough homes. Females tend to be 26-28 inches at the shoulder and weigh 120-140 pounds. Be very careful with supplementing large dogs it can lead to joint abnormalities, panosteitis or HOD. She should eat a high quality large breed puppy food. There is enough nutrients for proper growth. The final size of a dog, just like a person, is controlled by genetics as well as environmental factors. Genetics is complicated and can not be controlled as much as we wish we could. Trusty is a beautiful boy! The best thing you can for Trusty which is feeding a high quality dog food. Trusty does need to eat a large breed puppy formula. Stick with ProPlan or Royal Canin. I'm not sure the diet you are feeding is the correct one. It will say on the bag if it is intended for large breed puppies. He should eat this until he is 12 months old. Growth is genetic. A dog will not be any bigger than it's genes allow for. Growth in large breed dogs also needs to be slow to help prevent orthopedic conditions like dysplasia. Additionally, he will continue to grow (in height) until he is 12 months old. He will begin to fill out from 12-18 months of age (roughly).
