My puppy is restless. Can he get his 3rd vaccine early to go on walks?

Hello, yes you can take your puppy out for walks however, you increase the likelihood that he may become sick. Because he has been vaccinated it makes it less likely, however, you should consider only allowing your puppy around other pets whom you know are fully vaccinated. We are most concerned with diseases such as Parvovirus, distemper, influenza, and kennel cough. Continue to follow the recommended vaccine schedule for your puppy and be cautious about which other dogs come in contact with your puppy. Hope this helps and best of luck.

He can have his vaccinations 2-3 weeks apart, so you can ask your vet to do the 11 week vaccine 3-4 days earlier and then do the third vaccine the day before you travel. This should work. Your puppy will have good protection, but the full protection will not be until about two weeks after the last vaccine. Make sure he also has a bordetella vaccination before going to the boarding facility, preferably at the next to last vaccination date so he can make sufficient antibodies by the time he goes to boarding.

I would absolutely bring Gus back 3-4 weeks after the last vaccination. Puppies should be vaccinated every 3-4 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. This is when the maternal antibodies wear off and we know that the vaccinations are protective. Also the rabies vaccination should be given no earlier then 12 weeks and in some states you have to wait until 16 weeks of age. Booster vaccines for puppies should be given 3-4 weeks apart so his vaccine booster can be given anywhere from July 6 to the 13th. So, I think you are fine taking him 5 days from now. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 10 weeks of age, regardless of what vaccines Ted had previously, he is not old enough to consider him fully vaccinated. We vaccinate starting at 7-8 weeks and give the DHPP (or whatever version of that vaccine) every 3-4 weeks until they receive TWO past 12 weeks of age. I have seen dogs who got their last vaccine at 12 weeks still get parvo (at risk breeds like rottweilers and pit bulls). So while I am not in full agreement with the reason you were given I agree that he is not fully vaccinated yet. There is a fine line between protecting him from disease and socialization. He can be socialized with well vaccinated dogs and can go for walks on side walks. He shouldn't play with puppies or dogs where you do not know their vaccine status or play in dog parks. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. 2 weeks is really too soon for the next vaccine. 3 weeks is early but is acceptable if you have to, 4 weeks is ideal. Longer than 4 weeks you start to run the risk of the whole set not working. I hope that answers your question, best of luck with Tuco.

There is no magical expiration date for vaccination (except for the Rabies vaccine as required by law). We have a strict time frame for which the puppy vaccination series must be done based on puppy immunity. After that, we used to vaccinate every year, but have found that many dogs are protected for years, so we have changed our recommended vaccination protocols. It is not a problem to do them a month early. Then after that, it will only be recommended to repeat her distemper/parvo vaccination booster in 3 years.
