When can you feel puppies move in a pregnant dog, and how many days?

You might be able to feel this during very late term pregnancy, around day 55 or 60. But in many cases, you really can't feel much of anything from the outside - unborn kittens are very tiny and don't tend to move very vigorously, so if you can't feel anything, this doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong :)

Unfortunately you can't tell if this is a real pregnancy or a false pregnancy without an ultrasound at this stage. At 22 days, the fetal heart beats can be detected on an ultrasound. At 45 days, the fetal skeletons can be seen on an x-ray. Depending on the size of the mother and the amount of puppies, the fetuses may be palpated in the final weeks of pregnancy. Otherwise she will have up to two litters of puppies a year. Not only is this a lot of strain on her body, but it contributes to pet over population. To determine pregnancy in dogs, sometimes the sacs can be palpated as small tennis ball like objects, starting at about 28 days - however this is variable. Ultrasound starting at day 28, and x-rays at day 45. Human pregnancy tests are NOT reliable. Best of luck with Daisy!

Average gestation period is anywhere from 58-72 days with an average of 65 days, so technically she is not overdue, just longer than the average. I would continue to monitor since she is not showing any signs of being in distress or trouble. If she goes past day 72, then certainly it is worthwhile getting her seen by your vet to ensure the puppies are still healthy and to consider a c-section. Unfortunately this is not a reliable way to know if she is going to deliver or not. Usually is best to count the days of pregnancy that should be around 60 days +\- 4 days. A dog's pregnancy lasts between 58-68 days, so it is possible she could go into labor anytime after that. I would start taking her temperature rectally twice a day. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. Once it drops below 100F, she should give birth to her puppies within 24 hours. Should 24 hours pass after this temperature drop with no sign of puppies or she reaches 69 days of pregnancy without going into labor, she will need to see a vet immediately. The average gestation period for dogs is between and 62 and 65 days. That is average; there are going to be dogs that have them a bit sooner or a bit later. I would not be worried about this. It is normal for a pregnant dog (or even a dog with false pregnancy) to handle stuffed toys like they were puppies.
