Why is my pregnant dog humping me? What does this behavior mean?

Humping/ mounting objects and other dogs is quite common in puppies both male and female. It is not always a sexual behavior and can occur due to excitement, stress, dominance, boredom, and more. This behavior is often considered part of a dominance issue and can be seen amongst any dogs, even neutered dogs occasionally. Be aware that your puppy will be able to mate very shortly and you should consider neutering her or making arrangements to keep them separated for 3weeks when she comes in heat next

If you are not planning on breeding her then it is best to get her spayed. Dominance behavior and sexual behavior can both be decreased by spaying (removing the source of the hormones). The mounting may simulate be dominance behavior and likely is unrelated to mating or pregnancy. It is too early to determine if she is indeed pregnant or not. You will need to have her physically examined by your veterinarian in about 4 weeks. At that time, your vet can confirm pregnancy via palpation, blood test or abdominal x-ray or ultrasound. The vomiting may be unrelated as well. If it was just once and she is behaving normally now, there is likely no cause for concern. If she continues to vomit, have her seen sooner by your veterinarian.

Humping behavior is not restricted to male dogs and we often see females performing this behavior. It can be a result of excitement or stress but in some instances can be a form of dominance or aggression. You can try to distract/discourage your dog by offering a toy or play when your dog starts this behavior, or teaching your dog the "leave it" command and applying it to other dogs she may approach. If the behavior is excessive or becoming more aggressive then a consultation with a veterinary behaviorist is recommended. If there are no other signs, it certainly could just be behavioral. Humping is a dominance behvior in dogs, so yes, it is possibly occuring from Lucy getting too excited. However, if there are any changes to her vulva (enlarged, any discharge, etc.) or any other behavioral changes, I would certainly have your vet evaluate her just to be sure that there isn't a medical cause.
