My pregnant dog has clear discharge and is lifting her leg. Is it labor?

A moderate amount of clear, sticky vaginal discharge is normal for a pregnant dog, especially close to delivery of the puppies. The increased hormone levels cause an increase in the lubrication produced by the vagina. As long as there is no evidence of dark green color in the discharge, a milky or creamy appearance or foul odor no treatment is needed. It does not mean that she will give birth earlier.

This can be a normal discharge. She will start to nest, not eat as much and have some milk from her nipples when she is about to give birth. This is likely the dissolution of the mucus plug. She will give birth within the next week and should start lactating soon. If the discharge looks like pus or has a bad smell. you need to take her to your veterinarian right away for an exam. Your vet can also take an x-ray and tell you how many puppies to expect so you know when she is done giving birth.

This is a normal discharge, and as long as it's not yellow, green, or has a foul odor, I would not worry about it. As long as you walk her at her pace, stopping if she seems tired, then this distance is fine :-)
