My pregnant dog has white mucus after peeing. Is this normal? Is she in labor?

  This could be Willow Dawn's mucus plug if she is towards the end of her pregnancy. This can be a normal discharge, and as long as there is no blood, it's not green in color, or does not smell, this likely isn't a worry.

  The white stuff could be cervical mucous, which can be normal. If it was only one time I would just monitor her and check her vulva often. If you are concerned or it keeps happening I would take a fresh sample to the vet and have her examined. At 42 days it is too soon to confirm pregnancy on an X-ray but you can detect heart beats on ultrasound. In 10 days you can take an X-ray.

  A pregnant dog will develop a mucus plug over her cervix, which keeps bacteria out of the uterus, protecting the fetuses. This plug is a whitish fluid resembling egg whites and should have no odor. In some dogs, the mucus plug causes a discharge throughout the pregnancy. Even though you described a perfumish odor I suspect this is what you are seeing. I don't know if your vet did this or not but I would suggest they take some of the discharge and look at it under the microscope. If there is a lot of white blood cells or bacteria that would be cause for concern. If your vets are not reproductive experts they can always call and consult with one. There are many good ones in Colorado. You could also call Whelp Wise and make use of their services. They are very good.

  I would be concerned that this white mucus discharge could be a sign of a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus. I would have her checked out by a vet today. The vet is the only one who can confirm if she is pregnant or not, and can determine if this discharge is due to a pyometra. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
