My pregnant dog has brown discharge and bleeding. Is she in labor?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 15 lbs

My dog just discharged a brown looking fluid and is bleeding from her vagina, does this mean she is going to give birth soon? I uploaded pictures.

Yes, sugar will start having contractions and straining very soon. If she is panting, but no straining after another 2hrs you must take her to your vet for an exam and they might give her oxytocin. The dark brown/ green discharge is from the placenta.

This is highly abnormal, you need to take her to the vet urgently otherwise you will lose the puppies for sure and might also lose her. She is too old to be pregnant, you should have her spayed after this pregnancy or during the c-section which I suspect she will need.

Unfortunately, it is too early to confirm pregnancy. You will need to wait another two weeks before your veterinarian can confirm a successful mating via blood test, palpation or abdominal x-ray/ultrasound.
Monitor for lethargy, fever, straining to urinate, heavier discharge or bloody discharge. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

These are signs possibly related to a uterine infection/inflammation called pyometra. Personally I would start an antibiotic treatment (amoxycillin is harmless for puppies). If the discharge continue it may be worthy to discuss c -section. My pregnant dog has clear discharge. Is this a sign of labor?

A moderate amount of clear, sticky vaginal discharge is normal for a pregnant dog, especially close to delivery of the puppies. The increased hormone levels cause an increase in the lubrication produced by the vagina. As long as there is no evidence of dark green color in the discharge, a milky or creamy appearance or foul odor no treatment is needed. It does not mean that she will give birth earlier.

If you are sure she was bred and is pregnant, being in stage 2 labor for 8 hours is serious for Abby and her puppies. If you aren't sure she is pregnant she could have an infected uterus (pyometra) and the discharge is puss. A pyometra is a surgical emergency. I recommend that you take Abby to an emergency clinic right away to have her evaluated. I wish you the best of luck!

What does green discharge mean for my pregnant dog in labor?

I'm concerned about this color discharge. This can be a sign of premature separation of the placenta. Without seeing Coco in person, I cannot say if this is ok or not. I'd take her into a vet immediately.
