What does green discharge mean for my pregnant dog in labor?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 1 year and 8 months old

Okay, so my babe Coco has had a temp ranging from 99.8-98.2 from yesterday until today. Currently temp is reading 99.2 . She is starting to have some discharge I have not noticed before, like a egg white mucous with a VERY light green tint to it. Are we getting close to seeing some pups? Wasn't sure if this discharge was part of labor or not. Also do he temp readings seem normal for signs of labor ? FYI I do not know exact due date. Depending on symptoms to guide me, and y'all of course, TIA!

I'm concerned about this color discharge. This can be a sign of premature separation of the placenta. Without seeing Coco in person, I cannot say if this is ok or not. I'd take her into a vet immediately.

Pepper needs to see a vet immediately, as this is a medical emergency. A green discharge isn't normal and can indicate that the placenta has separated before the puppy has been born. You need to take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.

Hi there. Dark green discharge is a sign of placental detachment - so if you are seeing this but no puppies have been produced, I would consider this an emergency and take her to the vet immediately for evaluation. He/she can examine her and assess the situation more fully, but I would be concerned that an emergency C-section is likely needed.

Yes, I would be a bit concerned. I suggest you have your vet check her out to be on the safe side. In some cases, this discharge may indicate a separation of the placenta which would endanger the pup(s).

My dog had dark green discharge after birth. Is a puppy stuck inside?

That's extremely unlikely. A placenta should be delivered for each individual puppy, so the sac and placentas should all have been delivered. It can be difficult to count unless you are closely monitoring during delivery, as she will eat some of the placentas. If she seems to be doing well since she gave birth--all the puppies are nursing, she is eating, she doesn't seem painful or distressed--then I wouldn't worry. My dog's in labor, green discharge, no puppies for 2 hours. Emergency?

Yes I would be concerned about River. While it is normal to see a greenish discharge after puppies are born, having it before puppies can indicate premature separation of the placenta. It's also concerning that two hours have passed since this sac broke and there is no sign of puppies. Boston Terriers frequently have problems giving birth and often require c sections to give birth safely. River needs veterinary attention now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Is green discharge normal for a pregnant cat about to give birth?
