My 8-week-old pitbull puppy can't walk. Is this an emergency?

Poor pup! This sounds like a potentially serious problem, so I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic today to be seen. He may have a neurologic problem of some kind, may have injured himself somehow, or may have ingested something toxic. The ER veterinarian can do a completely neurologic exam and may recommend blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help figure out what's wrong. If you're not sure where to go, try calling your regular vet's office - their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest ER or an on-call doctor for emergencies.

Not being able to walk all of a sudden is an emergency and you need to take Paris to your vet now. If this is caused by a prolapsed disc, then time is of the essence, ie treatment with NSAIDs, pain medication and strict cage rest as early as possible increases the chance of recuperation. There can be other reasons for not being able to walk, and only a hands-on exam will facilitate a diagnosis. Your vet will want to do radiographs, possibly blood tests and do a thorough orthopedic and neurological exam.

Yes, he should be checked by your veterinarian ASAP. This is not normal behavior for a puppy. He may be sick, anemic, have a low blood sugar or have suffered some kind of injury. Due to his very young age, he could decline quickly and the sooner he is checked, the better.

Sorry to hear that Stinky isn't feeling so great. The symptoms you are describing could be an indication of many different problems, or even multiple problems at once. If there is a primary gastrointestinal issue, it could be due to an infection, an inflammatory / immune mediated process, indigestion, hepatic / renal disease, parasites, or even a cancerous process ( not very likely or common in a puppy ). If there is a primary orthopedic issue, the most common thing to consider in a puppy would be a traumatic injury. Other causes of lameness can be infectious / inflammatory disease, congenital issues, and cancerous processes. Certain tick borne disease ( lyme disease in particular ) can cause both of the symptoms you are describing. Considering you live in an area of California high in ticks carrying this disease, this would be pretty high on my list of possible differentials. If Stinky is not currently protected against fleas and ticks, I would definitely get him on something. Get him to the vet when they are open tomorrow and see if they can help you figure things out. This is a serious, life-threatening illness that is unfortunately quite common in puppies. Other possible causes of her symptoms could include an intestinal obstruction, a serious infection of some kind, or ingestion of something toxic. Regardless of the underlying cause, these symptoms are serious enough to warrant a trip to the emergency vet tonight. He/she can do some diagnostic testing to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment right away.

There could be many different causes for weakness in the hind legs, ranging from a problem with the bones due to development, injury, dietary deficiency; or a neurological issue such as a compression of the spinal cord due to a herniated disk, a spinal embolism, infection, tick borne diseases, and more. An examination is needed to determine the causative agent and start treatment.

Oh no, that's not good! Jessie could have suffered an injury to his spine or hips causing him to suddenly be unable to use his back legs. It's quite serious that he can't use them, and I would have him seen by a vet tonight for a physical exam and x-rays to diagnose what is causing his symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can treat him. Please bring Jessie into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.
