Will my Pitbull mix be taken away if I register him due to breed?

The method of documenting mixed breeds is different for all clinics - there isn't necessarily one universal way of documenting this in the medical record, and clinics are often limited to the settings in their record system database, so I recommend calling your vet and explaining the situation. Some record systems allow an animal to be entered as two specific breeds (pomeranian x husky) while other systems require you to choose the primary breed and list it as a mix ("pomeranian mix" or "husky mix"). Some systems allow a manual addition of a breed, which could allow the record to say "pomsky" but many don't work that way. So - talk to your vet! Since your dog is a cross between two breeds, and the apartment staff said they'll respond differently if the dog is listed as a mixed breed, I would expect your vet can work with that. Your local city or county may require that you get a dog license for her, so you can check with your town hall or county courthouse to find out. If you're asking about kennel club registration, your breeder should have given you registration papers to fill out and send in.

If the previous owner has no records then you need to take her to a vet for an exam. The vet can verify her breed for you. Also, if your apartment complex wants breed verification I'm assuming they want her to be up to date on vaccinations. Since the litter would receive half of its genes from the pit bull and half from your mixed breed, none of the puppies would be pit bulls. That said, the way genes are expressed can vary widely and it is possible that some of the puppies may strongly resemble pit bulls. It is equally possible that none of the puppies would resemble pit bulls. Genetics keep us on our toes and you never know exactly what will happen!

No, it is not classed as a pit bull but if there is some pit bull blood in the dog, and it gets recognised, you are at risk of having the same problem again. In general, American Bulldogs cross Staffies are ok.

What a tough situation for you to be in! Yes, it's legal to give her away if you want to do that, but you may not have to give her away. Pit bulls get a raw deal in my opinion, and while there are some that are dangerous, there are many who are sweet, lovely, and wouldn't hurt anyone. It's how you raise them and train them, and I know many many people who have the loveliest pit bulls. Keep in mind as well just because she looks like a pit bull doesn't mean she is one. She could simply be a pit bull cross. Certainly if you feel safer without her in the home, give her to your friend. Your feelings about the safety of your baby comes first. It's very sad indeed, they are for the most wonderful dogs with a very bad reputation due to the type of owners that tend to get those dogs. i'm not sure what is the exact law in the UK regarding the possibility to re-home banned breeds but many dogs who cannot be re-homed for various reasons end up being euthanized, this is the very sad truth.
