Does Petco provide pet prescriptions, or is it just for advice?

Petco carries a variety of flea and tick medication over the counter. You can only get a prescription product from a veterinarian if they have examined Bruno. Petco does offer vaccine clinics but you would need to check with the specific services individually. You would need a current prescription from a veterinarian who has physically examined Duke. You can then place your order and submit the prescription. The pharmacy will then contact the veterinarian or clinic to confirm the prescription then fill the order.

If you live near a Petco that has a full service hospital then yes, you could talk to the vet about refilling your cat’s prescription. If your Petco has a Vetco vaccine clinic then the vet performs vaccines and routine preventative care only and would not be able to authorize refills. Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about Brittany's troubles. I am not sure if Petco has full veterinary services, as that is the appropriate avenue for eventually prescribing proin. When I see a dog for urinary incontinence issues, I start with a full blood and urine panel and a culture of the urine to rule out infections or any other health issues. I also will check the urinary bladder with an ultrasound and take a few xrays to make sure we don't have bladder or kidney stones, or cancer of some kind causing the incontinence. Once I've ruled out any other causes, and I know I need to use proin, I check a blood pressure to make sure that's normal too (because proin can cause side effecrs with that). I'll start a patient on the recommended dose and then recheck to make sure it's working. A couple weela after starting I'll usually check blood pressure, and then once more 4-6 weeks out. At that time I'll often check a mini panel and just double check some blood values. If all is well, i will just do periodic blood pressure checks throughout the year and labwork as needed for senior pets. I hope this answer is helpful!

Unfortunately in order to prescribe medication we are legally required to have examined the animal to establish a “vet-client-patient relationship” so we cannot call in prescriptions with online consults. You will need to touch base with your regular vet to get Kylo’s medication.
