Why is my Pekingese's eye swollen? Is it a vet emergency?

It's quite serious that her left eye is swollen shut from itching, which could be caused by an eye infection, injury to the eye, or a foreign body. You can try flushing it with a sterile saline wash to see if there is a foreign body in there to get out, but ultimately she does have to see a vet right away. If the cause of this isn't diagnosed and treated as soon as possible, it can lead to permanent loss of vision in that eye. In addition, any safe eye medications for dogs are only found by a vet. That's because a dog's eye reacts differently to human medications than a human's eye, and are available by prescription only from the vet. I would take Paxitas into a vet now, and hopefully you can find one that you can trust and have a good experience with this time. This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. Eye problems are always emergencies and always terribly painful. Peeko may have severe conjunctivitis, uveitis, a corneal ulcer or a severe eye disease such as glaucoma. Peeko needs to be examined by a vet ASAP, preferably today, as a longer wait may cause the eye condition to deteriorate and he should not suffer so much pain.

If the eye itself is swollen, not the skin around it, then no it will not go away. The pressure of being trampled could have caused Baby's eye to exit the orbit and that can lead to blindness without prompt treatment. Baby needs to go to the nearest open vet clinic immediately.
