Is Pedigree good? What food should I feed my Shar Pei with allergies?

Shimar is so cute!! I think as long as your are feeding a high quality commercial puppy food then she is getting all the nutrients she needs. My favorites are science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina. All of these have been around for a long time and have several studies to back up their product. I hope this helps!

I typically prefer Science Diet or Royal Canin as my food recommendations. As long as Simmi does well on the food, there is not a "best" food for any one dog. Some dogs may not do well on Science Diet or Royal Canin and do better on foods such as Pedigree. Preferably, it is my recommendation to have Simmi on Science Diet or Royal Canin if possible. There are worse brands and there are better brands. If your dog does well on it, is healthy and it is easy for you to get then you can continue to feed it. If your budget and shopping options allow, consider a better quality diet.

That is a great question. It is very uncommon for dogs to be allergic to grains. I would make sure that Tallulah does not have a food allergy to protein. It appears in dogs that chicken and beef cause the most skin issues in our pets. I would consult with your vet about possibly trying a hypoallergenic based diet. I would recommend feeding this for 12 weeks to see how she does. I hope that helps

Both are good foods. I personally feed my dogs Iams, so if you wanted to switch to that, it's fine to do. It's important to know when switching foods to do it slowly so that Scooby doesn't get any GI upset. Start by mixing 75% old food and 25% new food, and feeding that for a couple of days. Over the course of two weeks, gradually increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of old food until he is eating the new food only. Other brands I recommend include Royal Canin and Hill's Science diet, but those would be pricier than the Purina One and Iams. I hope this helps!

Thank you for posting the food! I can certainly understand being concerned about this food, it is not a good quality food in my opinion. And from your previous post, it does sound like it was upsetting her stomach. I would consider switching her to a different food slowly. You can give her a high quality food like I mentioned previous, such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet, but other good quality foods include Iams and Purina Pro Plan. To switch food, you mix the new food and old food together, gradually increasing the amount of the new food and decreasing the amount of the old food until your puppy is eating the new food only. This help prevents GI upset.

Congratulations on your new puppy! Pepe Le Pew is absolutely adorable!! Iams puppy food is a perfectly fine food to feed him. I would recommend if you wanted to switch foods to wait two weeks before you do that. This was he gets comfortable in his environment before switching anything. You can do Iams, Science Diet, Nutro, Eukanuba and even Royal Canin. These companies do a lot of research on foods and are well balanced.
