What quality dry food is best for my puppy's dry, itchy skin?

Both are good foods. I personally feed my dogs Iams, so if you wanted to switch to that, it's fine to do. It's important to know when switching foods to do it slowly so that Scooby doesn't get any GI upset. Start by mixing 75% old food and 25% new food, and feeding that for a couple of days. Over the course of two weeks, gradually increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of old food until he is eating the new food only. Other brands I recommend include Royal Canin and Hill's Science diet, but those would be pricier than the Purina One and Iams. I hope this helps!

However, what I have found the most helpful in reestablishing a nice shiny coat is using fish oil daily. You can get the commercial ones sold online or at your local pet store. This works great. As long as it is a name brand food with an AAFCO label on it. This means it has been tested and meets specific standards. Typically royal canin, Purina, science diet, and Iams qualify for this. Be careful switching foods without suddenly as this can cause diarrhea. It is best to mix them and gradually switch it over a week

Try switching the diet to a food like Royal Canin or Nutro. Both of these foods contain additional supplements for coat health and many pets respond nicely to the diet after about a month. This is a great question, and one which does not have a simple answer, as there is no one pet food that is best for all dogs, even within a specific breed. Certain types of specialty dog foods, including grain free diets may be linked to heart disease in dogs, so I recommend talking to your vet about potential risks for Lilly and her sibling. I recommend a small breed adult food until they reach 7-8 years old, and then switching over to a senior formula slowly over the course of a week. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. Given her young age, I would suspect that if that is the case it could be due to flea allergies. Another possibility is something like mange. This is something your veterinarian would check with a physical examination and basic diagnostics like a skin scrape and cytology. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

I would choose a puppy formula in small bite size for Kylie. Make sure to mix her old food in with the new food over a couple of days so you don’t upset her tummy.
