Is Pedigree dog food healthy enough for my three-year-old dog?

Shimar is so cute!! I think as long as your are feeding a high quality commercial puppy food then she is getting all the nutrients she needs. My favorites are science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina. All of these have been around for a long time and have several studies to back up their product. I hope this helps!

Both brands offer very well balanced diets that have gone through extensive research. Pedigree is a decent average diet. Higher quality foods such as Iams, Royal Canin or Science diet are a bit more expensive but the health benefits are worth it in the long run if you can feed it. Make sure to change any food gradually and once you pick a diet keep her on that food without table scraps or other foods.

There are worse brands and there are better brands. If your dog does well on it, is healthy and it is easy for you to get then you can continue to feed it. If your budget and shopping options allow, consider a better quality diet.

They have the veterinary scientists & research dollars to innovate, create & stand behind their products that are used to help fight disease & metabolic problems in our pets. If all you are interested in is basic nutrition, then all the other pet food manufacturers are more than adequate, as long as they have the AAFCO statement on their label. I am so glad to help you! In my opinion, the best choice is a commercial kibble like Royal Canin. Royal Canin does have veterinary nutritionists on staff. I'd also recommend Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Iams. They also have veterinary nutritionists. I personally feed my dog Iams.

I would recommend feeding a diet from a company with a good reputation, who employs veterinary nutritionists to help formulate their diets and does AAFCO feeding trials to prove that their diets provide complete and balanced nutrition when fed long-term. Companies that meet these criteria include Iams, Purina, and Royal Canin. Purina Dog Chow Complete Adults would be a very reasonable choice.
