Is Orijen or Acana dog food safe for my dog despite many ingredients?

Hello, both dog foods are good brands. It may be a difference in ingredients and quality of ingredients which fits better for Chloe. Both formulas are made to meet the AAFCO standards and regulations for pet food, meaning they are both balanced and will provide adequate nutritional support for Chloe. The difference in these two foods mainly has to do with price and brand. Natural Balance is still considered a good brand of food and one of the most used and well known brands of commercial dog food. Chloe can have Natural Balance if she does better on it. Acana is a good quality food, so I think that this is a good choice if you are going to switch him to dry food. That ingredient list is comprised of primarily meat along with some legumes such as peas, lentils, and beans which are often better than grains and carbohydrates to act as "filler."

Limited ingredients diets are recommended for dogs that have or may have food allergies or sensitivities. Some pet parents choose to feed limited ingredient diets to their dogs to avoid preservatives and fillers.

In my personal opinion Orijen is the best commercial food on the market or at the very least a top 5 food, i have been using it for my pets for many years and have been recommending it for years as well.

Both Fromm and Acana are excellent companies with excellent quality foods. I don't think anyone will be able to give you a valid reason to use one over the other. What I can recommend is only feeding one at a time since each food is balanced, we can sometimes throw that balance off if feeding a mixed diet. However, I do think it's a great idea to rotate diets occasionally. So, since you know that Chloe does well on both diets, you can feed one for 1-2 months at a time, then rotate to the other one. I don't recommend Acana because it's grain free, and vets are seeing an increase in dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy who are on grain free diets. Here's the thing about the claims of only certain foods being "human grade": They are all human grade! The products come from animals slaughtered in plants that use the meat for human consumption. It comes from the same animal that provides chicken breasts to humans. The brands of food I recommend are the only ones that have veterinary nutritionists on staff, which ensures the food is balanced. They also meet AAFCO standards and run feeding trials. Those brands are Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I feed my dogs Iams, and they love it. I hope this helps!
