My dog prefers Natural Balance over Acana. Is it a good dog food?

Orijen and Acana are considered "premium" diets. Either is an excellent choice to feed Chloe. If she is eating something different, make the switch gradually (over 7-10 days) to prevent gastrointestinal upset.

Most of Natural Balance's foods are limited ingredient or high-quality ingredients, so they should be fine to feed. If you've transitioned recently from dry to wet it may be that the higher amount of liquid in the wet diet is increasing the stool volume slightly. As long as it isn't runny, discolored, or distressful to Chloe when she goes potty, this is fine.

Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I just ask my clients to check for the AAFCO nutritional statement on any food brand they purchase. If the pet eats the food well, is appropriate body weight, doesn't have vomiting or diarrhea then I am happy. Between these 2 brands you will get different answers and reasons probably from every Vet or pet owner you ask. I have clients on both that are happy. I agree with you regarding Acana vs Natural balance, it is a better quality food. why not switch her to Acana light & fit, it is a reduced calorie diet, it will contain less calories than the natural balance and you will keep the high quality of the Acana.

The nutritional profiles for both of these foods is very similar. I have no preference, but I have had heard several positive reviews about Fromm from my clients. What I would recommend is that you choose one (just go with your gut!) and feed it for 1 week. If Chloe doesn't like eating it, has vomiting or diarrhea, less energy, a dull haircoat, etc then it may not be a good match for her body. Then you could try the other (or a different food).

Interesting, if you would ask i would probably say that Canidae would be my personal choice over natural balance, but the stools appearance and quantity say otherwise in her case, it seems she might be better on the natural balance.

Both Fromm and Acana are excellent companies with excellent quality foods. I don't think anyone will be able to give you a valid reason to use one over the other. What I can recommend is only feeding one at a time since each food is balanced, we can sometimes throw that balance off if feeding a mixed diet. However, I do think it's a great idea to rotate diets occasionally. So, since you know that Chloe does well on both diets, you can feed one for 1-2 months at a time, then rotate to the other one.
