My dog does well on Fromm and Acana. Should I rotate dog food?

The reason is that most dogs are very sensitive to diet changes and it is best to stick with one good high quality balanced diet longterm instead of switching them frequently. Some examples of high quality balanced diets include Purina Pro Plan and Science Diet foods. Once you are feeding a balanced and complete diet, there is no need to add other ones or switching them. This will avoid the gastrointestinal issues that would come with changing diets on a regular basis. Good luck and have a great day!

That should be fine! As long as Chloe likes her food, has no GI issues like diarrhea, good skin and ears and is at a healthy weight there is no problem with variety. I recommend an AAFCO tested (vs formulated - should be written on the bag) food, I hope this helps!

It's actually not a bad idea to feed variety of food if she tolerates it well. The most important thing to do is transition the food slowly. This means that you add the new food into the old food slowly. You can do this over the course of a wee; where you increase the amount of new food until it is 100% by the end of the week. It may also be beneficial to add probiotics to the food while transitioning. This can be found at most pet stores. If you notice diarrhea and vomiting while transitioning food, then stop the new food and only feed the old one. You can attempt the transition again when the diarrhea stops. If she gets diarrhea or vomiting again, then it's best to avoid that particular food. It's up to you how often you want to do this (6wks vs every 3 months), because I don't know of any strong reason to do it more or less frequently. Orijen and Acana are considered "premium" diets. Either is an excellent choice to feed Chloe. If she is eating something different, make the switch gradually (over 7-10 days) to prevent gastrointestinal upset.

Hello, both dog foods are good brands. It may be a difference in ingredients and quality of ingredients which fits better for Chloe. Both formulas are made to meet the AAFCO standards and regulations for pet food, meaning they are both balanced and will provide adequate nutritional support for Chloe. The difference in these two foods mainly has to do with price and brand. Natural Balance is still considered a good brand of food and one of the most used and well known brands of commercial dog food. Chloe can have Natural Balance if she does better on it. I have used Fromm for years and always been very pleased with their products. Their Four Star line does have grains in it which doesn't bother me for most dogs, but some people do not like that. I have not used the Nulo line before. In looking at their ingredients, they have very good ingredients. One word of caution though if you have a Cavalier is that they are generally not high energy dogs or athletes, so the Nulo line might have more protein and fat than she needs. If you decide to try Nulo with her, you might select one of the lower fat diets. I always tell clients that there is no perfect food. You have to try it with your pet and see how they do on it. It doesn't matter if it has all the right ingredients, if your dog doesn't do well on it. I think both lines are good foods, so select one and see how Chloe does on it. I hope that was helpful. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I just ask my clients to check for the AAFCO nutritional statement on any food brand they purchase. If the pet eats the food well, is appropriate body weight, doesn't have vomiting or diarrhea then I am happy. Between these 2 brands you will get different answers and reasons probably from every Vet or pet owner you ask. I have clients on both that are happy.
