My new older dog is wheezing, vomiting, and not eating. What's wrong?

The wet nose isn't a problem, but it is a concern that Rockie isn't eating and vomiting whenever he is drink gin water. He also sounds lethargic. He could have a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis. His symptoms indicate he is quite sick, and he needs to see a vet now. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rocky. He needs to see his veterinarian if he has not been eating well for several days. Being a young puppy, it will be easy for him to become dehydrated. He could be painful somewhere or even be experiencing an upper respiratory tract infection. Is he coughing or sneezing at all? Neck and/or back pain are also common in small breed dogs. His veterinarian will be able to tell based on his exam findings. In the meantime, keep him quiet to allow his body to rest. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Poor Rocky. He could have a problem with his prostate, may have leptospirosis, a UTI, or bladder stones causing this. He is very sick and he needs to see a vet immediately. Please take him into one now.

This sounds serious. You need to get Rocky to a vet as soon as possible for treatment. This is not something you can "fix" at home. The two main possibilities for his symptoms are: 1) vaccination reaction or 2) parvo virus however, there are any numbers of things that could be the issue. Without examining him myself it is too hard to say. Please get Rocky to a vet ASAP. A puppy his age will get severely dehydrated with all that vomiting and not eating.

I am sorry to hear that your pet is so ill. Unfortunately with those symptoms we would not be able to pinpoint exactly what is wrong because those symptoms are not unique to one particular disease or condition. A number of things could be causing symptoms of vomiting, nausea and respiratory problems, including kidney disease, primary lung disease, cancer, heart disease and even infection. I would highly recommend taking him in to your local vet for testing (bloodwork +/- radiographs) to determine what the underling problem is exactly so that we know what he needs to hopefully get well again. 20 days is a long time to go on being ill. An abnormal breathing pattern can be a sign of many conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, heart disease, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Rocky evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. Labored breathing and chronic vomiting are both very serious clinical signs especially when seen in concert with one another. If vomiting occurs during a labored breathing episode, Bachy could potentially aspirate the vomit and cause a serious case of pneumonia. I don't think this is something that should wait until the morning. You should give a call to your local ER vet and see what they think of the situation. They may recommend bringing him in for some oxygen therapy and diagnostic work up. I understand that you only just adopted him yesterday, but this is definitely the best possible thing to do for him at this moment.
