Why is my pet vomiting saliva, wheezing, and struggling to breathe?

Poor guy. I would highly recommend taking Angus in to any available vet asap. Difficulty breathing could indicate a lung issue now which could even suggest that he may have pneumonia since he recently had vomiting episodes. He is considered to be highly unstable and should see a vet right away. I am so sorry your pet is so ill and best of luck finding a vet to see him and get him well. Take care.

It sounds like Snoopy is suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Since he is obviously having a severe cough, it would be prudent to take him to your veterinarian for an exam. This could be a simple kennel cough, canine influenza, or even a heart problem (congestive heart failure can cause pulmonary edema which in turn can cause wheezing and coughing). Also if she is having trouble urinating or defecating? Anytime an animal is not breathing normally it is an emergency. Sometimes the breathing can look abnormal when they are in pain or have a fever but there are more serious causes for trouble breathing that are life threatening: heart failure, pneumonia, pleural effusion, cancer. The abnormal breathing alone is a reason to take her to an emergency room now. If you mean she is straining to urinate and is NOT passing urine, that is also a life threatening problem and see should be taken to an open emergency room. Causes of being unable or urinate are most commonly from a bladder stone stuck in the urethra or a bladder tumor. When dogs strain to pee they can vomit and pant due to pain If she is straining to poop, then that likely means she has diarrhea and feels the urge to go but doesn't have any stool to pass. Since she is also vomiting she could have an upset stomach from: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infection, ate something gross, food change, new treat or table food, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion. If she is straining to poop then that can wait for your vet to open. Trouble breathing and urinating shouldn't wait. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Waffles evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. The cost of the visit will depend on many factors such as the clinic you go to and what tests and treatments are needed. I would expect at least a few hundred dollars. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about Rocky! What concerns me most about his symptoms right now is the fact that he is wheezing. This would warrant a visit to the vet right away. With wheezing we would worry about things like a respiratory infection (which can also cause runny nose) as well as other lung abnormalities and heart problems. He needs to be examined by a vet, have his heart and lungs listened to with a stethescope. Depending on their exam findings they may recommend testing such as x-ray of the chest. They can look down into his ears while he is there to check for signs of infection or foreign bodies.

I am so sorry Austyn is feeling so badly tonight. The safest thing to do given the severity of his signs would be to bring him to an emergency vet for evaluation. Vomiting can be caused by many things (dietary indiscretion/eating something he shouldn’t for example) and often isn’t too serious. However, given that Austyn is pacing, short of breath, and uncomfortable I worry something more serious could be going on. For example a condition called gastric dilatation and volvulus can be seen especially in large breed dogs where their stomach bloats. Or dogs can aspirate a little on the vomit which can lead to respiratory problems. If he doesn’t settle down over next the 15 minutes, or if his belly is bloated and firm, or the vomiting continues it is important to bring him right away. If his belly is soft and he settles down and he is breathing normally and his gums are pink, you could watch him closely and bring him to his vet tomorrow for evaluation. I hope austyn starts feeling better very soon.
