Why is my older dog peeing inside, throwing up, and not eating?

Hi there! I'm so sorry poppy isn't feeling well. Given her signs, and that she isn't spayed, she does run the risk of having a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus. This can become very, very serious if left untreated, so I would have her examined by your veterinarian right away. Aside from the above, which would be at the top of my list until proven otherwise, Poppy is 7 years old. This makes her a senior dog. She should have blood tests to check not only for a pyometra, but for other illnesses such as diabetes, or kidney disease, for example, that may cause her decreased appetite. Good luck!

Poor Babygirl! I see that she isn't spayed. One of the causes of her symptoms could be a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus. This is fatal without treatment. It could also be she has a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or pancreatitis. Because she hasn't eaten in two days, is vomiting, and I can't rule out a pyometra without seeing her in person, I would take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Poor girl! One of the most common culprits for this issue is a urinary tract infection. Many times, dogs are reluctant to urinate when it's painful, so they either try to hold it, have accidents in the house when they can't hold it, or they dribble and urinate more frequently. Pain and discomfort associated with urinary issues can commonly cause them to eat less or skip meals. Likewise, kidney infections, bladder stones, and other issues, can cause similar problems. At this point, as long as Molly is able to pass urine and is still acting normally, I think you can wait to see you vet first thing tomorrow. If she's unable to urinate, lethargic, or vomiting, I think you should take her to an ER vet today. A vet will need to collect a urine sample, so be sure not to let her urinate on her way into her appointment! Unfortunately, there really isn't anything else that you can do at home at this point aside from taking her outside frequently and offering plenty of fresh water. I hope that she feels better soon!

Chronic vomiting, has multiple causes but may cause an electrolyte imbalance which could account for the symptoms you are seeing. If he is drinking more water than usual, he should be seen by your vet for an exam and bloodwork to rule out kidney disease, diabetes or other GI issues. When a pet is vomiting, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If he won't eat, serve the food warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not or if the appetite does not return, then you will need to see your veterinarian.

Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. Poor girl. She may have an internal illness that is causing her to not want to eat and have excessive drinking. Several things could be causing this including a bacterial infection, liver or kidney disease. I would recommend offering her some canned dog food or boiled plain chicken and rice to see if that entices her to eat. However, if she has not eaten after 24 hrs, or seems to be declining at any point, its best to get her seen by your vet for a proper exam and some diagnostic tests (i.e. bloodowork) to help identify the underlying problem so that we know how to best help her. Hello. Of course, I can not diagnose Dora, but it is possible that she has an infected uterus. This condition is called pyometra. It is also possible that she has a severe infection in her urinary tract. She needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian. She may need emergency surgery to remove the uterus, or she may respond to medical treatment, but either way she needs professional help.
