Does nursing puppies after their first shots make them ineffective?

The first vaccine at 6 to 8 weeks of age protects the puppy from parvo in case it has no maternal antibodies left. If it has maternal antibodies left in its system, the vaccine will not do anything, however we cannot know whether there are any left or not. So it is a "just in case" protective vaccine.

Early vaccination does not obtain any advantage, on the contrary. his immune system at his age is not ready to receive vaccination yet, they will have very little effect and will leave him vulnerable to catch infections. i would not recommend vaccinating him before the age of 8 weeks.

I would not advise to skip the 12 week set. As the antibodies wear off, he will lack immunity. The idea is that the vaccine will stimulate his immune system. As long as he has mom's antibodies, his immune system will not fully react to the vaccine. The reason they get so many vaccines is that you are trying to make sure he has vaccines on board during the time of the shifting between his mom's antibodies and his own immune system taking over. You will not over vaccine him. Its better to be safe than to risk Parvo. The main time I worry about vaccines is when dogs are getting 3 or more vaccines at a time. Smaller dogs and certain breeds are more prone to vaccine reactions. So if anything, separate out vaccines so that he is not getting a bunch all at once. The ideal vaccination series should have 2 combination vaccines given after 12 weeks with the final vaccine between 16-20 vaccines. I would also recommend having these vaccines given by a veterinarian or at least purchased from a veterinarian. Vaccines from a feed store can be mis-handled and therefore not be active when given. This would leave Violet susceptible to contagious and possibly fatal diseases.

Vaccines in puppies should be given every 3-4 weeks starting at 8 weeks of age. So he can be boostered at 11-12 weeks (looks like he has about a week to go). The chances of him getting something from the unvaccinated dog's owner is pretty minimal but there is always a slight chance. I personally would not be too worried about it but there are a couple things you could do to minimize risk. You could just kindly ask her to wash her hands before petting. The other option is that you don't have to let her pet him at all. You can always say you are busy training him and you would prefer that no one pets him for now if you want to avoid a conflict..... I do not think that because the wrong mother was recently vaccinated and dewormed will harm the puppies. I would be careful and have the real mother be the only source of milk going forward. No, Royal does not need to start his vaccines from the beginning. Because he got his second round when he was four months old, his immune system was developed enough and he will have low maternal antibodies that will enable protect. Dogs do need a booster shot one year after the first, and Royal should therefore get another booster of the vaccines by the time he is 16 months old.
