Keeping it clean is the best way you can keep it from getting sore/infected. If this is not possible anymore, then it may necessary to surgically remove it. The best thing to do is to clean the wound well each day. You have to also make sure that the wound does not have maggots in it, because these will make the wound much worse. The fly spray is OK for outside the wound, but is not good for inside the wound and will delay healing. I recommend flushing the wound with clean water twice a day to help it heal quicker. I do not recommend applying any soaps or antiseptics like iodine to the wound, because this can also delay healing. I know this may seem contrary to what you have been told, but please trust that this is the best way to treat a wound. It could be a pressure sore. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep an eye on it to make sure there is no sign of infection. Help move her so she isn't laying on it, and pad up her nesting area with lots of blanket to soften the area.

She has a serious infection there, first of all separate her from the puppies completely, so they can't feed on her anymore. secondly you will need to contact your vet as she needs an antibiotic course to treat this nasty infection.

I am very sorry to hear that Lucy is having these problems while she is nursing her pups. It sounds like you are very on top of the situation and attentive to her needs. Since the pups are four weeks old hey will have started to wean, which I can see you have done. This means that Lucy can have a break too. I would place a tshirt on Lucy and let her tears have a break for a couple hours each day. Since she was also warm I would watch for signs of mastitis. Mastitis is a bacterial infection of one, or sometimes more then one, of the milk producing glands in the breasts. Other clinical signs would be; Swelling Firm Warm Discharge (other then milk) painful to the touch Loss of appetite Lethargy Neglect of puppies If you suspect that Lucy could have mastitis based on the above clinical signs I would suggest taking her to see a veterinarian. The vet will be able to prescribe an antibiotic, antiinflamatory medications and pain relief. In the meantime you can apply a cool compress to the affected area. Ouch, poor Omi! Gently wash the wound warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
