Is it safe to use NexGard, Seresto, and Advantage for my pets' fleas?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Not 100% sure what you mean by an Advantix flea bath. Advantix is a topical flea treatment applied on the skin of dogs. Yes you can use Nexgard along with Advantix. Great multimodal flea/tick strategy. After you have used both oral and topical treatments together for 3 months or so, any environmental problem inside the home should be addressed. That gives enough time for most if not all of the immature stages to mature and be killed by the products. After that time period, you may be able to drop back down to one product each month. Depends on your geographical location and your particular flea problem. Good luck

Yes a Seresto collar and Nexgard can be used together, however both Nexgard and Seresto are highly effective against fleas and ticks and therefore it is not necessary to double up. You can just as effectively use either on its own.

It is ok to use Seresto along with other topical products, just not oral ones. In some pets there can be a little skin irritation, so watch out for that and notify your vet if this happens. Otherwise, you should be fine to go ahead with Seresto to see if this does the trick. I would also recommend using a flea fogger to treat your home, which can be found at your local Home Depot or Lowe's. If you still don't have good results with the Seresto collar, then I would wait at least 2 weeks and consider better products such as Simparica or Nexgard. I would not use these two products consecutively. Their combined used hasn't been studied much, but it is just safe to use only one flea/tick prevention in this case. Nexgard is a very effective product, so he should be fine going forward with just this one on board. I hope that things go well for your Mac going forward. Best wishes and take care. : )

You can use both products on the same day so it is fine to start the Advantix at any time. There are better products that Advantix. Top products for dogs are oral products such as Simparica and Nexgard. Top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products. Cleaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is making sure the pets are on good products. This is what will ultimately stop the infestation. Also remember every female fleas lays about 50 eggs a day and it could take up to 6 months before the eggs hatch. Therefore, you will need to treat for at least 6 months. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It would not be recommended to do this, as a Seresto collar and Advantage II have the same active ingredients - so you would essentially be giving your dog a double dose of medication, which may not be safe. It shouldn't be necessary to use two different flea control medications as long as you are using an appropriate size/dose for your dog's weight. If you are already using one of these products and are finding that it is not effective, I would recommend switching to a different flea medication entirely, such as Nexgard or Bravecto - these are both much more effective in my experience.

The combination of the products is known to be safe, so there would be no worry of it causing any adverse effects. I assume the vet meant to give the capstar to quickly kill any adults and to give the nexgard to ensure he doesn't get re-infested from fleas in the environment. This would be an effective way to kill all the fleas and perhaps your vet has other reasons for prescribing the combination (maybe they have experience using one versus the combination). The Nexgaurd alone should work though, so if you really don't want to just give one, then that would be the one would recommend. I would recommend calling the veterinarian and asking if this is OK though. It's also good to treat the environment for fleas, because fleas can reproduce and nest in the environment and continually cause an issue.
