My newly adopted dog sneezes and sleeps a lot. Is this normal?

He is very cute! Congrats on the adoption. Frequently, these rescues may have a low grade illness. The stress of transport and a new home can cause a worsening of symptoms. Since he is "new" to you, have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose and treat any pre-existing conditions. Consider blood work and a fecal exam to make sure the weight issue does not have a serious underlying cause. At the very least, he will get a clean bill of health and you can likely chalk up the symptoms to the stress of transport and a new home. Monitor for other signs such as coughing, vomiting, diarrhea or a loss of appetite. It may take him a few days to settle in.

Coso is probably recovering from an upper respiratory infection or cold, or kennel cough. This may take another week or two to fully resolve. As long as he's eating and acting normal it's nothing to be overly concerned about. Should he stop eating, be lethargic or the sneezing doesn't clear up in a week or so then a veterinary exam is in order. Puppies often get sick when together especially in a shelter or rescue situation and heal quickly once in a home with better care and nutrition. It could allergies but it's more likely to be an upper respiratory infection, if it is it should resolve within a couple weeks without treatment. if he starts coughing- bring him to the vet to get treated.

Poor Miko! It sounds like she probably has an upper respiratory infection of some kind - this is very common in dogs who have come from a shelter or rescue environment with lots of other dogs. I would recommend taking her to the vet to have this checked, since she will probably need a course of antibiotics to treat the infection.

Congrats on your new dog! It certainly is possible that Finn has a respiratory infection if he was living in the pound before coming to your home. I would have him seen by a vet tomorrow. The vet can diagnose if he does have a respiratory infection, and can prescribe medications to treat his symptoms. Tonight, if he's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections.

Sneezing is common in cats and can be a sign of mild allergies. I wouldn't be too terribly concerned, unless you start seeing nasal discharge, decreased appetite, or wheezing. Let it run its course and if things don't improve or seem to worsen after about 3-4 days, then you should get Dale seen by your vet for some allergy medication and other treatments (i.e. antibiotics) if needed. Hi there. Sneezing could be caused by allergies, or an upper respiratory infection. If he's acting fairly normal otherwise (eating and drinking fine, active, etc.) you could opt to monitor him for now and see how things go for the next few days. The problem may resolve on its own, similar to when we get a minor cold or allergy flare-up. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if your pup develops other symptoms such as coughing, thick green or yellow nasal discharge, or begins acting very lethargic or not eating, then I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian for treatment.
