Is blood in urine normal for a newborn puppy after an accidental drop?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 days old

My puppy is three days old and abandoned by her mother...my mom dropped her accidentally and her umbilical cord got tugged and started to bleed a little. Is blood in the urine normal after this? She almost died fading and I am trying to help her myself.

It is not normal for the puppy to have blood in her urine. She may have some internal trauma from being dropped. She will need to be fed with milk replacer every 2-3 hours. If she is not doing well then I would recommend having her checked out by your vet.
