Just adopted a dog, found worms in his stool. What's next?

Panacur kills roundworms (which is likely what she has), whipworms, and hookworms. You can get that over the counter. Deworm her now, and then again in two weeks to kill all the worms. After that, she should be dewormed monthly until she is six months old, and then she should be dewormed every three months. I hope this helps!

Cassie should be treated with a deworming medication such as Panacar (fenbendazole) which treats roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. This treatment is generally once daily for 3 days. Then, this same treatment should be repeated again in 3 weeks, and again in 3 months. This is done to ensure that all lifestages of the worms are treated by the medication. If there are any other pets in the household too, they need to be treated/dewormed too! I hope this is helpful!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Max is very cute! If we do not know his vaccine status, the Vet will assume he hasn't had any. It is best to be safe than sorry and it will not hurt him. He should get a Rabies vaccine and two DHPP vaccines 3-4 weeks apart. Both will be good for 1 year. Bring a stool sample and the Vet will also heartworm test him so you can start prevention. You can also discuss setting up his neuter if you plan on fixing him. Hello. Ideally, you should bring a sample of the stool to your vet for a through analysis. That way, anything unusual can be properly treated. But in the meantime, you can go to any pet retailer & pick up several safe & common dewormers such as Pyrantel pamoate, or Safeguard wormer. The reason dogs get tapeworms are from ingestion of fleas. Most dogs in shelters or from a rescue have fleas or are exposed. i would recommend contacting your vet to get medication to get rid of the tapeworms. As long as Angus is flea free and not ingesting them the tapeworms should not return. I would recommend picking up his poop for 2-3 weeks and throwing it away to prevent a high infestation in the yard but again dogs will get tapeworms from the ingestion of fleas. I hope that helps

Hi and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach about Alf. Intestinal parasites are very common with puppies. Alf will receive several dewormings with his puppy visits with his veterinarian. Please take a fresh fecal sample to your first veterinarian visit with Alf so they can evaluate for all of the parasites he may have. This is not an emergency for Alf, but would best to have him seen this week by his vet.
