Should my Cavalier eat Fromm or Natural Balance grain-free food?

I have used Fromm for years and always been very pleased with their products. Their Four Star line does have grains in it which doesn't bother me for most dogs, but some people do not like that. I have not used the Nulo line before. In looking at their ingredients, they have very good ingredients. One word of caution though if you have a Cavalier is that they are generally not high energy dogs or athletes, so the Nulo line might have more protein and fat than she needs. If you decide to try Nulo with her, you might select one of the lower fat diets. I always tell clients that there is no perfect food. You have to try it with your pet and see how they do on it. It doesn't matter if it has all the right ingredients, if your dog doesn't do well on it. I think both lines are good foods, so select one and see how Chloe does on it. I hope that was helpful. I'v had a look at the ingredients list, which is to me more important than the protein %, both of them are great quality food, Nulo seems to be a little better though, but it's completely up to you, both are a great choice.

Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I just ask my clients to check for the AAFCO nutritional statement on any food brand they purchase. If the pet eats the food well, is appropriate body weight, doesn't have vomiting or diarrhea then I am happy. Between these 2 brands you will get different answers and reasons probably from every Vet or pet owner you ask. I have clients on both that are happy. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I think this all depends on if Chloe is overweight or not. I've attached a body condition scoring chart, review it an let us know if she is overweight. Overweight dogs need less calories compared to an underweight dog or one of ideal body conditions. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Many spaniels have sensitive stomachs as well as skin in my experience. If Chloe is doing well on the food, with no diarrhea or upset stomach, I personally do not have a problem with it. I like a food that is within the ratios of protein to fat as you have said-with the caveat of patients that deal with things like irritable bowel or chronic pancreatitis, in which I make the fat as low as possible while still being a healthy food source for our canine companions. While you have said you aren't a fan of many commercial diets-there are types that cater specifically to sensitive stomach and food allergies from many of our large brands-and if you don't like these there are comparable brands as well that you can find at your local Petco. If Chloe is having active issues with this particular food, please let us know and we can suggest a comparable diet. I find that probiotics often work well for my sensitive GI patients as well. Fortiflora is commercially available and has a high palatability when tested. I hope this helps!

I would keep Chloe on the Fromm if you like the ingredients better. The feces look fine in both pictures. Her feces in the Fromm look well formed and solid, and while some of it is a little lighter, that could be due to the ingredients in the food. As I said in my previous answer to your question, as long as the Fromm doesn't cause her diarrhea, it's fine to keep her on it.

Hello, both dog foods are good brands. It may be a difference in ingredients and quality of ingredients which fits better for Chloe. Both formulas are made to meet the AAFCO standards and regulations for pet food, meaning they are both balanced and will provide adequate nutritional support for Chloe. The difference in these two foods mainly has to do with price and brand. Natural Balance is still considered a good brand of food and one of the most used and well known brands of commercial dog food. Chloe can have Natural Balance if she does better on it.
