My mother dog eats her 8-week-old puppy's poop. How can I stop her?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 15 lbs

Is it still normal for the mother dog to eat her pups' poop? Her pup is almost 8 weeks now. I want to stop her already.

It sounds like Aurora just wants to be a good mom! I would discourage her at this point. It should be easy for you to clean up after the puppy now. Make sure to deworm both mom and pup with something for round worms and hook worms. Good luck and kisses to Aurora and her baby!
