My mixed dog has German Shepherd markings. What's her true breed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed

We were told when we got my dog that she was a boxer-lab mix but she has the exact markings of a german shepherd. Her mother is a black lab mix of some kind. Could it be that Mocha’s mom is a german-shepherd and black lab mix and the markings skipped a generation? Or is it just a coincidence?

Yes, it is possible Mocha's mother could have had some German Shepherd in her genes. It is also possible that the father was a German Shepherd if you did not actually see him. If you want to know for sure, you can do a DNA test.
