What breeds are in my 6-month-old 42lb shep/lab mix? Is he a hound?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 6 months and 12 days old | 42 lbs

Any idea what breed my dog is?? When my husband and I rescued him from a shelter, we were told that he is a shep/lab mix... but we are wondering if he has a hound in him as well... He is 6 month old and 42lbs.

I think he certainly could have some hound in him. I also think his face and ears look a little like a Great Dane, although he's not that large. I definitely can see the German Sheoherd. There are some commercially available DNA tests that can be fun and might give some other ideas although their accuracy is debatable. I think Wisdom panel is best http://www.wisdompanel.com

    I would guess Labrador or maybe some hound. He does look mostly German Shepherd - those ears are adorable! You could look into a DNA test like the Wisdom panel. They will send a kit in the mail to do a cheek swab at home.

    Oh, she is very cute. Based on looks I would agree part German Shepherd, but hard to know what else. If you really are interested there is a DNA cheek swab test that can tell you ancestry percentages. Best of luck and enjoy your new puppy! Thank you for using Pet Coach.

I see no evidence whatsoever of any kind of shepherd in his background. He is almost certainly a Sporting and/or Hound mix . . . could be an English or Welsh Terrier, Brittany, or Pointer mixture. Less likely, but also possible, would be American or English Foxhound or Harrier, or even Beagle! To be absolutely sure, you can have his DNA tested.

Zeus is one handsome guy! He certainly appears to be a Pit Bull mix, but it is impossible to precisely determine the other breeds in his mix simply by sight. First you should know that breed identification by looks alone has been proven to be inaccurate 75% of the time. If I had to guess, I suspect a pit bull type breed and German Shepherd. However Boxer and maybe hound could also be present. If you want to know for sure, look at one of the breed tests such as Wisdom Panel. Beautiful dog!

Awww, very cute! She looks like a cross between a Rottweiler and a Labrador Retriever. If you are really curious as to an exact answer, there are dog DNA tests available that make are supposed to be able to reveal exact genetic make up of a canine. Hope this helps!

She looks big! From her head shape, I would think there is some Great Dane in her. I can't tell you for sure if she may be full Great Dane or a mix, but her paws, head shape, short coat, and coloring and very similar to a Great Dane.
