Are Milk Bones and Old Mother Hubbard treats good for my dog?

As with any treat, as long as it isn't causing Chloe to have any vomiting, diarrhea or inappetence, small amounts of treats in moderation are fine for most dogs. If she is dealing with a weight issue, there are low calorie treats that are available as well.

Milkbones, in moderation are fine to give your dog. They are typically pretty low in calories so they are a better treat than other chewy/jerky like treats. Just remember less than 10% of your dog’s diet should come from treats. The other 90% should come from a well balanced dog food.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center! I personally like the Purina Pro Plan diets as well as the Hill's Science Diet foods as I think they are both palatable and highly nutritious. It is ok to give her some but they contain a lot of calories so you should limit the amount that you give. You could also mix a small amount of peanut butter with her dry food and then stuff the contents into the Kong. You could also freeze the Kong so it takes more time for her to get the material out of the Kong.

Thank you for submitting your question and congratulations on your first dog! Treats should not comprise more than 10% of the diet. They should be given in small amounts. If you are giving Milk Bones, by the tiny size and only give several a day. Most dogs in this country are overweight. Being strict with his diet from the start with help to prevent this from occurring with him. As far as the best chew, it is based on the individual dog. The chew needs to be something he enjoys, but more importantly something he cannot break pieces off and swallow. This can become a surgery to remove. I hope this information helps!

Meat generally refers to skeletal muscle tissue from the animal source (chicken, beef, etc). Meal meal is formed from tissue leftover after slaughter. It is cooked down and dried to be added as a protein source. Bone meal refers to ground bone and adds calcium and phosphorus to the diet. Milk bones are nice treats for dogs as then come in very small sizes. This helps with portion control as many peta are overweight. I have attached an article that will explain this further.
