Are Milk-Bone dog treats bad for my dog's health? What should I know?

Milkbones, in moderation are fine to give your dog. They are typically pretty low in calories so they are a better treat than other chewy/jerky like treats. Just remember less than 10% of your dog’s diet should come from treats. The other 90% should come from a well balanced dog food.

They aren't the best brands, but you can give them to Chloe. The reason why they aren't the best brands is because they are cheaper, which means they are made with lower quality ingredients. If you want high quality treats for her, I'd recommend brands such as Royal Canin, Purina ProPlan, or Iams :-)

It is ok to give her some but they contain a lot of calories so you should limit the amount that you give. You could also mix a small amount of peanut butter with her dry food and then stuff the contents into the Kong. You could also freeze the Kong so it takes more time for her to get the material out of the Kong.

Think of it this way - treats are like cookies - they taste good and may have some nutritional value, but overall are empty calories. Dog treats are similar. You can use smaller treats, or training treats to be able to give her a treat more frequently, but no more than 10% (or less) of her diet needs to be treats. Meat generally refers to skeletal muscle tissue from the animal source (chicken, beef, etc). Meal meal is formed from tissue leftover after slaughter. It is cooked down and dried to be added as a protein source. Bone meal refers to ground bone and adds calcium and phosphorus to the diet. Milk bones are nice treats for dogs as then come in very small sizes. This helps with portion control as many peta are overweight. I have attached an article that will explain this further. Hello! Milkbones are like the doggy equivalent of McDonalds. It makes for a great treat or reward, but definitely not an important part of a nutritious diet. Meat and bone meal in pet foods often comes from beef and pork. I hope this is helpful!
