Why is my male dog so protective of my female dog in heat?

Unfortunately male dogs can smell females in heat up to two miles away and they will try to break in. It is the responsibility of the owner of the male dog to keep him under control. I would call the police telling them that this stray dog is damaging your house and trying to get in and you need it moved as you are also afraid that it may attack you. I am not sure if they will do this, however since property damage is involved, they just might take the case.

Yes, this is absolutely normal for an entire male. I would try to keep them separate, but if they are in the same building they will sense each other. The advice would change according to wether you would like to breed from the female dog and you are happy about having puppies or not. Actually I doubt there is anything wrong with your dog. Your other dog must be a female in heat and Rambo and her were mating. Females in heat will smell very attractive through sexual hormones and will entice a male dog to mate with her. If you do not intend to breed your dogs, then I suggest you have both male and female desexed which will alleviate the problem.

It's probably because Zeus wants to mate with her that he won't leave her side. Male dogs can sense when a dog is in heat, and they will be attracted to the female and stay by them so they can mate with them every chance they get. If you don't want them to have puppies, I would keep them separated completely until her heat is over, which usually lasts around three weeks. You can get him neutered as well so that puppies will not happen, but he would still have to be kept separate from her for at least three to four weeks post surgery.
