My male dog mated one female. Can he also mate another in heat?

To answer your question, yes, a neutered male can still become restless / worked up when he is exposed to the hormones from a female in heat. Though he is unable to impregnate the female, he can still be responsive to the hormones she is emitting. Neutered males can display erections and ejaculate just like intact males. They may mount in a display of dominance or can still mount to breed in the presence of an intact and receptive female. Correct the behavior immediately (even though no litters will come of it) and distract or separate him completely from the female until she is no longer in heat. Consider having your female spayed in the near future.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on your pictures I wouldn't call it heavy bleeding. Dogs mate when the female is in heat (during bleeding). Breeding may have triggered some blood that had been pooling. I wouldn't worry unless it continues or she is lethargic. But yes, she can still get pregnant. Good luck!

Who gets to mate with females in the wild depends on who is the pack leader or the dominant dog. Marley could also be generally intimated or anxious around this other dog. Hi and thanks for your post. If Murci is not standing for the male, she is likely still in proestrus and not in estrus. Proestrus can last for a couple weeks and is marked with vaginal swelling and vaginal bleeding. You may need to wait a few more days until she will be behaviorally receptive to the male. If two pets aren't interested in mating, you can try pheromones such as the Adaptil diffuser. However, in most situations you will have to resort to artificial insemination through your specialized veterinarian if you want to get the female pregnant. Ask your vet if this is something they specialize in, or if they have a referral vet for you to seek help from. Best of luck with those two! Take care.

If she doesn't mate while in heat, then she may go out of heat for and come back into heat 1-2 weeks later. She may continue to come back into heat every couple of weeks during the breeding season (January-September) until she is bred. I hope this helps!
