Why won't my dog breed if another dog is in the room with them?

Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Gracie does not want to accept the male there is not much you can do about that. You cannot force her. You can try leashing her so she doesn't try to walk away from him or lay down but I would be surprised if this helps. Sometimes it is just that particular male she does not like. If there are other Dogue breeders around maybe you should try another male. The only real suggestion I have at this point is to have the male's sperm collected and then inseminate Gracie via artificial insemination (AI). I don't know if your veterinarian is able to do this in Bangladesh so you will have to consult with them to see if this can be done. I can think of 2 reasons: 1) she isn't ready yet 2) he is inexperienced and doesn't know what to do. If this is the case you might miss this round. He'll eventually get it. I wish you the best!

The most common reason why dogs refuse to mate is that it is the wrong time in the estrous cycle. If mating is attempted too early in the cycle, the bitch may not be receptive. A female raised as a house pet may be a shy breeder because of inadequate social contact with members of her own species. Mate preference, too, can be a determining factor. A bitch may refuse one male dog but may like another. I suggest you give her more time. Make sure you introduce her to the male at the right time in her cycle or, better yet, keep the two together throughout her entire cycle. If she hasn't been well socialized with other dogs then work on that. That may be why she doesn't know how to act around the male. If all else fails you can resort to artificial insemination. You can speak to your vet about how to get that done.

Hi and thanks for your post. If Murci is not standing for the male, she is likely still in proestrus and not in estrus. Proestrus can last for a couple weeks and is marked with vaginal swelling and vaginal bleeding. You may need to wait a few more days until she will be behaviorally receptive to the male. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This is an unusual question, but certainly not the oddest I have every heard. No, he was not backed up, but his sluggishness may have been due to an underlying illness, injury or arthritis. But as my husband would attest to, a pretty girl can always get you out of a slump. So I think the act of breeding the female just took his mind off of things, & hopefully keep him cheery for awhile. Take care.

Actually I doubt there is anything wrong with your dog. Your other dog must be a female in heat and Rambo and her were mating. Females in heat will smell very attractive through sexual hormones and will entice a male dog to mate with her. If you do not intend to breed your dogs, then I suggest you have both male and female desexed which will alleviate the problem.

I see that Lelo isn't spayed, but I'm not sure if Brady is neutered or not. He is likely very interested in her because she is an intact female and he may want to mate with her. I would not recommend mating them because it sounds like Brady's breed mix leads him to be a much larger dog than Lelo, and you should need mate a male to a female that is much smaller than her. This leads to large puppies and subsequent birthing difficulties often leading to emergency c-sections. I recommend having Lelo spayed and Brady neutered if he's still intact. That should help with his obsession with her. I would make an appointment with your vet this week. Good luck, I hope this helps!
