Why is my male dog leaking urine with no infection after treatment?

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. This sounds like urinary incontinence and that it is not secondary to a UTI. This could be caused by urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence (USMI), but is less likely to occur in males and more in females. JD could have a back problem or other neurological condition leading to decreased urethral closure pressure. I would recommend a trial of a medication called PPA or DES and see if the trial helps reduce the urinary incontinence. If there is no improvement after the trial, I would recommend more diagnostics such as abdominal ultrasound, x-rays or CT scan with contrast. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. It sounds like Blacky had a urinary tract infection, which sometimes can become recurrent or resistant and difficult to treat. His urine may need to be cultured again to see if the infection has resolved. Sometimes bladder stones or polyps, or diseases like Cushing's or kidney disease could also cause urine leakage. Finally, he may have urinary incontinence due to a neurologic issue and require medication to help stop the leakage. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian to see if there are any additional tests they would recommend.

He is so cute! If you are finding that he is urinating while he is sleeping then this definitely could be incontinence. I would talk to your vet about trying Proin (aka phenylpropanolamine) to see if this helps. This helps to tighten the urethral sphincter to prevent incontinence. It is used most commonly on female dogs but I have had some success using it in males. If you are seeing puddles throughout the house, he could have a urinary tract infection. I would have your vet do a urinalysis on him to see if there is any bacteria present. Your vet will be able to prescribe him the proper antibiotics to help him feel better. I hope this helps!

Your dog could be suffering from a weal bladder, a urinary infection or urinary stones. I would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it checked, he will need to have a urine test done and then he will be treated according to the results.

I would assume the small is from her anal glands I would recommend having a veterinarian express them to make sure they are not infected or impacted. If they are infected it can cause excess licking but not linked to urinary issues. If dogs are spayed very young they can get incontience issues. However I would highly recommend doing a urine culture first and making sure she is 100 percent healthy before starting incontience medications

Buster is one handsome guy! It sounds as though you and Buster have had a frustrating few months! In most cases, I would also expect cancerous masses in the bladder to grow more rapidly and cause a worsening of his incontinence issues, but some masses grow slowly or do not metastasize (spread) quickly. Some possible causes of Buster's urine leakage include infection, cancer (transitional cell carcinoma is the most common bladder cancer), hormonal imbalances, or neurologic deficits. At this point, it may be worth considering a urine culture to definitively determine if infection is present. A urinalysis will occasionally miss bacteria or white blood cells, particularly if the urine is dilute. This is a non-invasive test that could allow for a relatively simple fix with a course of antibiotics. If a urine culture is negative, it may be worth discussing trials with other medications with Buster's vet. Some dogs can benefit from phenylpropanolamine or testosterone if this is a true incontinence issue. If there is a suspicion that cancer may be present, it may be worth a trial with piroxicam (an NSAID that can be quite beneficial for bladder cancer) to see if his signs improve. All of these medications are prescription based and need to be prescribed by his vet, if they are indicated in his given case. I hope that all goes well for Buster!

Poor Ice! This excessive licking of his penis and the dripping of urine can be a sing of a medical problem such as a UTI or bladder stones. I recommend taking him into a vet today for a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis.
