How to make my dog's new bed smell like her and make it hers?

I suggest blocking off your bed so that Oli doesn't have access to it for a few weeks. At the same time have a nice, comfy bed for Oli in the same room. You may also want to offer Oli a Kong stuffed with peanut butter or spray cheese so that can distract him in his bed. Praise and reward Bentley when she lays on her bed. Restrict access to the room if possible. You can also use a physical barrier such as a carpet runner flipped upside down. The grips on the runner will be uncomfortable for her to lay on. You can also use a deterrent product such as a Scat Mat which will deliver a harmless shock if she jumps up onto the couch.

This will take time to retrain him. I recommend using a large bedspread to cover most of the bed frame to make it less scary. If it’s seems to high now or the floor is slippery where he is jumping from, put a rug down and a step if needed. Then I would put him on the leash and lead him into the room. Shut the door and have toys or treats available to lure him to get on the bed. Lift him up if you can if he won’t jump up himself and sit with him on the bed petting him, giving treats, and staying with him there until he relaxes. Then help him down, praise him and lead him out of the bedroom. I would work on this several times a day and hopefully with praise, treats and patience he will get back to jumping up and sleeping in the bed again. Without knowing how long you've had the bed, I would just give Remi some time. It may be that he isn't quite used to it yet, or doesn't quite understand it. You can entice him to check it out more by tossing a favorite treat onto it and then praising him when he stands on it/lays in it, etc, and discouraging and stopping him from behaviors you don't like, such as the humping by distracting him with another toy or treat.

Most dogs are very bonded to their owners-especially dogs who have been cared for by the same person for years. There may be a reason that she does not want to stay with you in bed. Where does she go? Does she go straight to tile or wood because the bed is just too warm (my own dog started doing this recently). Do you toss and turn and it bothers Gabby? Does a fan blow on her? Is there a new candle or scent in your room? All these things may be reasons Gabby decides to lay down elsewhere. As with most dogs, you can strengthen your bond by petting and sitting together (try laying with her wherever she likes to lay for a few minutes). The easiest option would be to put his dog bed in a crate and train him to sleep there - this way, you can close the door of the crate to keep him where you want him to be. Otherwise, there's really no way you can keep him from choosing to sleep someplace else. To train him to sleep in the crate, just put him in at night when it's time for bed (in your bedroom, ideally) with a special chew toy or long-lasting treat like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter, or a bully stick or pig's ear to encourage him to settle down and relax. Most dogs adapt to this nighttime routine very readily.

Do not let her into your room at bedtime. After she goes out for the last time give her a yummy treat or chew and put her in a crate to sleep in her bed in another room that you can confine her in. This behavior may get worse if you don’t stop it now. Please do not discipline her, it’s best to not let a confrontation happen by teaching her that your bed is not allowed ever, and she has her own place to sleep where she gets treats and her own space.
